On the evening of 19th March 2025, we hosted a heartwarming community iftar event. The event brought together students, residents and families from diverse backgrounds to celebrate the spirit of Ramadan and foster a sense of belonging and unity.
We began the evening with a warm welcome, highlighting the significance of Ramadan and the importance of coming together as a community. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation as guests settled in for an evening of meaningful interactions and shared experiences.
One of the most memorable moments was hearing from our guest speakers from both Muslim and Christian faiths. Our Muslim students spoke eloquently about the values of compassion, charity, and togetherness that Ramadan embodies. They emphasised how these values transcend religious boundaries and are essential for building a harmonious community.
Our Christian guest, Dr Rev Phil Rawlings, shared his thoughts on the importance of interfaith dialogue and mutual respect. He expressed his admiration for the inclusive nature of the event and encouraged everyone to continue fostering connections that strengthen our community. His words resonated deeply with all of us, highlighting the shared values between the two faiths.
As the Maghrib prayer time approached, we prepared to break our fast. The sound of the adhan marked the beginning of the prayer, and the room fell silent as attendees engaged in their spiritual practice.
After the prayer, we enjoyed a delicious iftar meal featuring a delightful array of dishes that catered to various tastes. The meal provided an opportunity for us to bond over food, share stories, and build new friendships. The sense of community was palpable, with laughter and conversations filling the room. The food was absolutely delicious, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the meal together.
We concluded the evening with closing remarks, thanking everyone for their participation and highlighting upcoming community events. The night ended on a high note, with guests mingling and expressing their appreciation for the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere.
We are already looking forward to hosting this event next year!
