FLAIR Racial Equity Award

FLAIR Racial Equity Award

Celebrating our silver award for racial equity with FLAIR

Flair award

We are incredibly proud to announce that our school has been awarded the silver award for racial equity by FLAIR, a nationally recognised organisation that helps schools and businesses create more inclusive environments. This award reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting racial equity, ensuring that every student and member of staff feels valued, respected, and empowered.

What is FLAIR?

FLAIR is a leading organisation that works with schools to measure, understand, and improve racial equity. Their framework helps us assess our progress and develop meaningful strategies to ensure inclusivity in all aspects of school life. Achieving the silver award signifies that we have taken concrete, data-driven actions to foster a more inclusive culture and continue to refine our practices.

Our commitment to racial equity

Our journey towards this award has involved a number of key initiatives, including:

  • The ‘ouch, oops, woah’ system – This structured approach helps students and staff address difficult conversations around race. It encourages individuals to call out harmful language (‘ouch’), take responsibility (‘oops’), and engage in meaningful reflection and education (‘woah’).

  • Educational resources following incidents – When incidents of racial discrimination or microaggressions occur, we use these as learning opportunities. We provide students with tailored resources to help them understand why certain language is harmful and how to build a more inclusive school environment.

  • Staff training and student engagement – Our staff regularly engage in professional development to ensure they have the tools to support students in racial equity discussions. We also create opportunities for students to share their voices and experiences through discussion forums and student-led initiatives.

What this means for our school

Achieving the silver award is a significant milestone, but it is not the end of our journey. We will continue to build on this progress, with plans to expand student-led initiatives, introduce further training, and embed racial equity in our curriculum.

We are grateful to our students, staff, and parents for their support in fostering a culture of respect, understanding, and inclusion. Let’s continue working together to ensure that everyone in our school community feels heard, valued, and empowered.
