Principal’s Message for Week A, wb 18th November
I have spoken to all our students this half term about how scholars build both their intelligence by working hard but also their character by being kind and taking part. This week they will all have the opportunity to further develop their understanding of diversity, tolerance and respect at our Social and Cultural Capital Day – more information on this below.
Tuesday the 19th of November: Year 9 Parents’ Evening
It is Year 9 Parents’ Evening this Tuesday the 19th of November - 3.15pm-6pm. You can book appointments on Arbor.
Thursday the 21st November: Social and Cultural Capital Day
On Thursday 21st November, we will hold our annual SCC Identity Day, and the theme this year is ‘Our stories, our strength’ where we will celebrate the wide ranging and diverse stories of every single student at MEA Central, while also learning about the stories of inspiration people, including some of our own Alumni! The day will be a celebration of music, dance and food. Students can wear their own clothes which they feel tell the story of who they are. These could reflect anything from their music tastes or the city they live in, to their favourite colours or their cultural heritage. Students are also welcome to wear their uniform, which tells the story of being a scholar! We can’t wait for one of the best days of the year at school! Please note that:
Lunch is free for all on this day.
There will be no after-school clubs or P6 lessons due to an earlier finish at 2.30pm.
Students should bring bags, planners and equipment as usual.
Friday the 22nd of November: INSET Day
We have a staff INSET day on Friday the 22nd of November. This means MEA Central is closed on this day for students.
Blood Brothers Trip 20th November 2024
We are looking forward to taking 75 students from Years 8 to 11 to see the production of Blood Brothers by Willy Russell at the Palace Theatre, Manchester
Students have been reminded if they are on the trip by their Form Tutors and the list is on the Drama Studio door. We have also had a trip meeting to tell them about the arrangements for the night
Students will meet at 6:15pm at school. We will meet inside the gates on Lytham Road.
Students will not be allowed to wait in school between 3pm and 6:15pm They are to go home and have some food before returning for 6:15pm
We will be returning to school at 10:15/30pm. As it is late, Parents/Carers should make arrangements for their child’s safe journey from school to home.
Students do not have to wear school uniform. Clothing must be appropriate, for example, no offensive slogans on T-shirts
There will be limited opportunity to buy a snack during the interval. However, the theatre will only accept card. Students may wish to take small bottle of water and snack which they can access and eat quietly. Bags should be small and may be checked on arrival by the security staff.
Students will not be able to take photos or film any of the production
As there will be other theatre goers sat by us, students will be reminded that they are not allowed to talk during the performance – The theatre will speak to individuals if there are any issues.
Year 7 and Year 8 Spelling Bee Update
This week, our Year 7 and Year 8 students participated in the semi-finals of the annual MEA Central Spelling Bee. Each form now has two outstanding spellers who will be representing their forms in the final. It was wonderful to see so many students who had put in the effort to revise, and their hard work truly shone through in their performances. We're looking forward to an exciting final in the week commencing the 2nd of December and celebrating our top spellers!

Year 9– Mr J Anatsui
Week 3 of 8 saw year 9 take on reflect week, it was great to see our scholars actively engaged in the sessions and reflecting on the feedback they had received from their teachers. This was an opportunity the practice the scholarly habit of independent learning and it was lovely to see this in action.
Year 9 have had an equipment and overtime reset this week, please support us by ensuring your child has the appropriate equipment for school, this means we are able to focus on the main thing which is the learning of all.
Lastly we are very much looking forward to welcoming you all to parents evening on Tuesday 19/11/2024, this is an opportunity to receive detailed feedback from all teachers to be able to make informed steps to support your child with their studies. Please encourage your child to attend to make the most of the evening.

Year 10 – Mr J Roper
A huge thank you to all the pupils and parents/guardians for all their effort and support in organising self-placements for the Work Experience week (24th-28th March 2025). We are working closely with the company 'Our Futures' who are now in the process of collating and verifying all the documentation. School will continue to accept self-placement forms but we cannot guarantee that the placement will be approved.
We may ask your child to re-visit or chase up their placement if they did not provide the insurance documentation when completing the self placement form - this is simply required to allow the pupil to safely access their work experience placement. Some pupils have been unfortunate not to gain a self placement, in this situation both myself and Ms Tinsley have been working with 'Our Futures' in finding the pupils a placement, but again this is not guaranteed. Assigned placements will be available to view on the pupils Work Experience portal from 3pm on Friday 15th November. All other students will be expected to attend school during work experience week.
Finally, some dates for your diaries. On Thursday 21st November we will be celebrating SCC Day (where the pupils can attend school in cultural dress to celebrate their culture and identity) and on Friday 22nd November school is closed to all pupils for INSET day.

Year 11 – Mr J Rooza
We are incredibly proud of how year 11 have conducted themselves in their progress exams over the last two weeks. They have shown us what mature, focused scholar they are and I'm sure this will be reflected in their results. Their hard work and commitment have truly shone through, and I could not be happier with their efforts.
As we move forward, our focus now shifts to college applications and personal statements. A reminder that the internal deadline for applications to be submitted to form tutors is quickly approaching on Friday, 2nd December. Students should have applied to at least three colleges to ensure they have strong options for the future.
To support students with this important process, we are offering after-school drop-in sessions where they can work on applications and complete their personal statements. It’s imperative that students reach out and seek support if needed.
